The opener is short at 48 seconds, one of the briefest first episodes we have timed. It’s set in a dance studio, where the instructor, in a black dress with a high slit, teaches the husband a tango with no one else in the room.
It’s a single scene, focused on the two of them and the steps, built around the lesson rather than any backstory. The husband is clearly the learner here, following her lead, which already hints at who sets the pace between them. The empty studio does a lot of work: the wife’s absence is felt without needing to be explained.
Tango is a fitting choice for this premise. It’s a dance built on close contact and leading and following, so the lesson itself carries the tension without the episode having to spell it out.
Who’s who in My Wife’s Dance Instructor
The husband is the narrator (the blurb is written as “my wife”), still turning up to class for a marriage his wife has stopped showing up for. The instructor is the professional whose lessons drift from teaching into something more personal. The wife is the absent third, booked into a class she no longer attends, the person who started all of it and then stepped away.

There’s also a sympathetic angle: he enrolled to save his marriage, and it’s his wife who stopped showing up, which makes the temptation more morally tangled than a plain cheating plot. Skip it if you prefer fast, explicit openers; this one starts from a 48-second dance lesson. It also won’t suit anyone who wants a credited star.
